The boys had been asking me for a looong time to make them some short sleeved Mario and Luigi shirts.
I was feeling a little bad because here I make all this cool stuff for other people and nothing for my kids!
OK, not "nothing," but usually there are many promises and not nearly enough actions.
So, having some extra time since the kids are tracked out, I took advantage and made the boys their shirts.
I had previously bought these shirts at the thrift store when, you know, the promise was made . . . months ago.
I had made patterns for the white circle, L, and M when we made their Halloween costumes.
However, somehow those have been lost.
So, I had to make all new patterns.
I cut out two white fleece circles.
Then cut out a red M and green L with fusible webbing on the back (the red and green fabric was left over from a Smurfs quilt I made for my brother a couple of years ago).
Once the L and M were in position on the white circles, I fused them with the iron.
Then I stitched (just a simple, straight stitch) around the L and M in green and red respectively.
I had the boys decide where on their shirts they wanted the symbols.
Luckily, they both chose the center (whew!).
Secured it in place with pins and sewed around the circles in white.
Voila!
I did add some really light iron on stabilizer to the inside of the shirt to cover the thread, but it's not really necessary.
They both love their shirts.
Ezren was anxious to wear it to school the next day and Isaac will wear his when he tracks back in.
And the shirts are big enough I shouldn't have to make another set until at least next year!
